These are their stories.

TITLE: Iron HeartIron Heart
AUTHOR: Madison Street
GENRE:Contemporary Romance

SUMMARY:

At the age of twenty-one, Parker Reede pledged his life to his country. The United States Army was his family. His home. His new life.

By the time he hit the age of twenty-four, he’d lost over two dozen friends, killed in the battles of war. The eerie cries of men screaming out in pain haunted his dreams for all the years spent in the hot, dry desert of the Middle East.

And now, at twenty-six, he drowns his nightmares and sorrows with whiskey, numbing away the pain. Loneliness and sorrow are all he has. No hope. No faith.

His heart – filled with hate, anger, and despair. It no longer beats for friendship, for family, or for love. Instead, it’s frozen in a shell of dark void.

Unable to escape the past and fearful of the future.

Until Lane Boisse literally crashes into his life and changes everything.

We Are Baton Rouge

We Are Baton Rouge

We live here. We work here. We love here.

This is home.

We are all connected, even when we are divided.

Connected by our love for the place we call home.

We’re cops, businessmen and women, doctors, and lawyers. We’re journalists, bakers, retail workers, and stay at home moms. We are everything in between.

We are everyone and we all matter.

We are you and you are us.

We are those who grew up here and will never leave. We are those who are transplants who came and decided to stay. We are those who visited and left, but a piece still remains. We are those who have never been here but who hurt just the same… because we are all people.

We are connected because we could be you and you could be us.

We are Baton Rouge.

We are ALL Baton Rouge.

Skye’s Show Stopping Guacamole

If you’re like me, you love avacados. I could eat them plain (and do quite regularly.) I slice them and add them to sandwiches and salads. But my absolute favorite is guacamole!

Today, after punishing my kids and making them clean (I know, horrible mother. At least they thought so. I mean, how dare I make them clean the house when the sun was out and it was a gorgeous day! My 8 year old diva’s words.), I DID let them go outside and then we came in and made guacamole as a snack.

It was a hit and we, of course, made a giant batch, but that means more for me later when I watch some Netflix after their bedtime!

Here’s my recipe:

Ingredients:

5 good sized RIPE avacados, diced

1 small purple onion, finely chopped

2 TB Lemon OR lime juice (fresh is best, but in a pinch, use bottled)

1 TB garlic powder

1 TSP dried Chipoltle (skip if you don’t care for it)

1 TB chopped fresh cilantro (1/2 TB dried)

Sea salt to taste

Fresh ground pepper to taste

***No one in my house cares for tomatoes, so I do NOT add them, but if you like them, finely chop a small Roma or whatever you like and add them.
Diced avacado (The diva wanted to point themout.)
Directions:

Dice avacados and chop onions. Add them to a large bowl.

Add other ingredients. Stir, stir, stir.

Taste.

Adjust salt and pepper to your liking.

***We like chunky avacados, so I do not really mash them, but if you like smooth and creamy guacamole, mash away.

Can serve immediately or refrigerate overnight for the flavors to meld together.

*Bet you can’t wait to devour it. It’s really THAT good.

Enjoy!

  Before stirring.

Name: Skye Turner

Age: 35

Where are you from?

NearBaton Rouge, Louisiana

A little about your self `ie your education Family life etc.:

I’ve been married to my love, James, for 10 years this October. We have 2 beautiful babies. A diva, 7, and a little man, 5. My little man has a congenital heart defect, but is a blessing a miracle who doesn’t even know he’s sick for the most part.

I attended Southeastern Louisiana University where I majored in Mass Communication, centering my studies on Broadcast/ Print Journalism. Unfortunately, life intervened and I never finished my studies, tough I only have about 15 hours left.

Writing is something I’ve always done, though I never imagined I’d write for the masses to read and make a career out of it.

Southern Shrimp and Corn Soup (More like a chowder)

A little dash of Southern.
From my Family Blog page.

theperfectkindofchaos

Corn and Shrimp SoupSeafood and Louisiana just go together.
You can’t have one without the other.
Soups and stews are some of our most popular dishes here in the South.
And one of MY personal favorites is Shrimp and Corn Soup.
It’s rich and creamy and simply delicious.
It’s simply as one of my favorite saying about food states, “A party in your mouth.”
