I just finished an Advanced Reader Copy (ARC) of The Rules by Kata Cuic. Now this book is part of the Moving the Chains series and can be read as a standalone.
This was my first book by Kata Cuic and I thoroughly enjoyed it! This is a New Adult novella with the perfect amount of spice. The story flowed easily, and though it was my first book in the series, I wasn’t lost and easily enjoyed the novella as a standalone.
If anything, as a new reader, I am intrigued and have already purchased the previous books to catch up.
Now onto The Rules.
Alex is dreamy. He’s cocky and self-assured while also showing hints of vulnerability that he desperately tries to hide. A college football jock with no shortage of female admirers and bedmates… he has rules.
Amira is smart and driven though she’s desperate for the ability to control her own life. Her upbringing and familial obligations weigh on her heavily and she just wants the freedom to make her own choices.
She enlists Alex to help her achieve this goal.
The acquaintanceship turned friendship between the two is captivating and I found myself desperately reading to see what would come to play.
While I wouldn’t say this novella is necessarily “romance” per say, it certainly shows the chemistry between Alex and Amira and is a great foundation for the next book, which will be their love story.
The sexy time scenes were done exceptionally well. One was a sort of voyeuristic and I was there for it! It was so sexy. Pure fire in my opinion without being too much.
The novella is the perfect length to whet your appetite and leaves you wanting more.
Personal Foul is the next novel in the series and is the rest of Alex and Amira’s story. I personally cannot wait! (I’ve already pre-ordered it.)
I do recommend the read and am now off to read the previous books! You should, too!
L’Amour Bayou is a continuing adult paranormal romance series by Sloane Nicole, my pen name for Paranormal Adult Romance.
It is very important to note that it is not a standalone series and that each book will focus on one particular couple but the series will continue as a whole.
No book should be read as a standalone as every preceding book has vital information including plot, characters, back story, etc.
The first book, Antoinette’s Fall, is novella length and absolutely must be read to be introduced to L’Amour Bayou and the main focus of the series.
Antoinette’s Fall has also just undergone a revision and over 3500 words were added. It was also re-edited and the price was dropped! It’s now only .99!
If you’ve previously read Antoinette’s Fall, you’ll want to update your copy to the latest version via your purchase site and reread it to get the expanded story! Some very important information was added.
Fate Awakened is Book 2 of L’Amour Bayou and as I’m currently writing it, it’ll release this summer! I’ll publish the details on the release HERE, on my blog and pages, as soon as I have them!
Today is the official reveal for the cover and blurb of Fate Awakened, A L’Amour Bayou Novel by Skye Turner writing as Sloane Nicole.
L’Amour Bayou is an adult paranormal/fantasy romance series that continues with each book. Each book focuses on one particular couple but every previous character, as well as new characters, are immersed within the story.
Fate Awakened is the story of Princess Glendula of the Florea and Fynn Levy (pronounced Lee-Veye).
Princess Glendula of the Florea, an Enchanter princess destined for the throne…
Fynn Levy, a human male with no knowledge of the existence of magic…
And a pull between them that cannot be denied.
Everyone knows that L’Amour Bayou is special. Both Exceptionals and humans alike are captivated by the allure.
L’Amour Bayou is home… the land she is destined to reign… that is, once she is bonded to her Kindred.
There’s just one problem… she has a limited time to bond and zero interest in any Florean male.
Fynn Levy is a typical Louisiana man… he loves fishing, hunting, and spending every waking minute he isn’t working to provide for himself in Sportsman’s Paradise.
A forbidden encounter on the banks of the Bayou change everything…
The world as Fynn knows it will never be the same… but, in a world ran by tradition and magic, does love stand a chance?!
Here’s the first “official” teaser from Fate Awakened!
If you haven’t read Antoinette’s Fall, A L’Amour Bayou Novella, I highly recommend you do as it introduces the world of L’Amour Bayou. And, these characters will certainly be back.
Antoinette’s Fall, A L’Amour Bayou Novella
Deep in the bayous in the south of Louisiana, lies a place of revelry, mystery, and magic…
Antoinette Dubois, an Intuitive, has always been a beautiful woman, with no interest in falling in love…
One fateful night on the banks of the bayou, under the light of a full moon, events start unfolding that have Antoinette losing control of her powers…
René Batiste has always been by Antoinette’s side. Together, they seek to reverse the upcoming calamity and to protect Antoinette. René has loved Antoinette his entire life, but the curse on her family is dangerous for those who love the Dubois women, and means Antoinette is determined never to succumb to love.
However, fate has a tendency to make its own rules…
Welcome to L’Amour Bayou… where beauty and magic reside and nothing is as it seems.
***This book is intended for those 18 and older. It contains explicit sex, graphic language, and adult content. Those against those things should NOT read!
I wrote over 4000 words, basically a chapter and a half, in Fate Awakened, A L’Amour Bayou Novel.
That used to be pretty standard, even a little on the low word count, for me on an average day. Before my accident and when I was super passionate about writing.
Now, it’s stinking amazing considering I’m typing with a constant migraine and only half use of my left hand. The last two fingers, pinkie and ring, simply don’t work.
Yesterday, I gave myself a tentative deadline to finish writing this book… the end of May. If you knew my writing previously, you know I was popping out novels every 3-4 months and releasing short stories every 3-6 weeks.
That is simply unrealistic now and I will no longer stress and pressure myself about deadlines. I’ve chosen a much more relaxed life that allows me the time to enjoy actual life outside of writing books. I plan to stick to that mantra. But, I’ve once again found my passion and the plan is to write… just slower.
With that being said, I’ll be releasing the cover and blurb/synapsis/book description (whatever you personally call it) and the cover next month.
Now, let’s talk a little about L’Amour Bayou, my fictional setting for the series and the entire series title! L’Amour Bayou is like most bayous in Louisiana, beautiful, seemingly otherworldly, and dangerous. Only, my bayou is also wrapped in magic.
Every sort of mystical creature you can imagine, to me… Exceptionals, reside within my banks. Though… humans, or as I call them, Unexceptionals, also find themselves drawn to the murky waters and stunning beauty of L’Amour Bayou.
The bayou has an allure that no one can deny.
L’Amour Bayou will be a series of books that focuses on different Exceptionals; however, it’s almost one continuous story. Every character will be in every book and you’ll learn more about the bayou as a whole as we all explore it together.
I cannot wait to share this journey with y’all and I’m so excited I’m once again writing and allowing you to see the worlds I create.
Something I’ve never done, since I began my writing career in 2013, is read my own books once they were past the writing, revising, editing stage. Once they published, I’d just move on to the next book I needed to write.
I take extensive notes as I write and create. I’m super detail oriented to the point I’m anal about it. So, for books in a series, I just use my notes for important details. Rereading was never important.
But, I recently decided that I wanted to actually READ the books this crazy brain of mine created.
I started with my very first novel, Alluring Turmoil. And, read the entire Bayou Stix series. To say I was “shook” at remembering how talented I actually am is a bit of an understatement.
“I wrote that! I created that world.” I found myself thinking. It seriously made me proud and ignited the spark that has me writing again now.
I read Unwanted Desire once I finished the Bayou Stix series. And, I seriously LOVE that book.
But then, I read James Black. I’d forgotten just how much of ME and MY actual life were poured into that book. The original covers actually featured my love/hubby/baby daddy on them. Something that caused him quite a bit of teasing/strife in his professional life. (He’d tell me about his co-workers printing tons of copies of the book cover and taping them up everywhere at work. Especially while offshore. But, it was all in good humor and they loved messing with him.)
I remember joking with my friends and readers that I was sleeping with my cover model… which was actually not at all scandalous since he’d long since put a ring on it. But, scandal in the “book world” is rampant. So, why not?!
Reading James Black was actually hard for me in a lot of ways since many scenes and situations were actually part of my real life. It brought back old feelings of anger and humiliation, but it also was kind of therapeutic. Reading about stuff you’ve actually been through, even though YOU wrote it, is quite something.
As an author, my job is to entertain my readers. Though, I also strive to involve my readers and have them relate to the words on the pages.
If the words I create can make people feel… that’s amazing. Even if the person doing the feeling is myself while I read about the not so great aspects of my life.
Now… I just finished reading Becoming James Black a bit ago. It took me a good ten minutes to actually wrap my head around the fact that I wrote this book.
I wrote a book that is heavy and talks about the darkness in this world we live in. Darkness and evil which is so very VERY prevalent today.
Becoming James Black was a HARD book to write. I vividly remember having to take breaks and do things to recenter myself and remember that though evil exists in the world, good exists, too.
Becoming James Black is a book that delves into the often broken foster system, the gray between black and white, and child sex trafficking that exists in our world. It exists right under our noses and the reality is that you really have no idea about a person most of the time.
But, the GOOD that is also immersed around so much ugly is something that needs to be brought to light.
I am so proud of myself for taking on these issues. I wrote this book back before it was something people actively talked about… because, it mattered.
It mattered then and it matters now.
Reading my James Black series as a reader, irregardless of the fact that I actually WROTE these books, was a surreal experience.
I think these might be some of the best books I’ve ever written… I’m proud of that.

If you have read the books and you haven’t left a review, I’d really appreciate it if you would! You can click the links below to leave a quick review, too.
I have been highly anticipating this book for months. Skye has been killing me with her little social media snippets (you’re a tease woman). I was worried that I had been passed over for my chance to read, but the book gods were smiling upon me and I got my chance.
Holy Effing Cow!
I agree that the Bayou Stix Series was amazing, however, I must say that this is definitely my favorite book by this author… so far.
Oddly, I went into this book expecting to really dislike James for some reason; but as I read I just couldn’t. I do believe that man could charm the panties off of a nun and strangely, I really enjoyed the fact that he was my age. **wink, wink**
Avangeline was freaking amazing. Skye definitely appealed to my love of strong, sassy talking, kick a$$ heroines. I definitely saw some of the author herself coming through in this character (this book has many real life aspects from the author’s life. And she’s stated it’s her most personal book).
I am really loving how my favorite authors are stepping outside of their comfort zones and changing things up a bit in their writing. This book was no exception to that testament and whether you have been a fan of this author or not, I highly recommend that you check this book out.
I can’t wait to see what’s up next in this series.”
Holy cow! I love all of Skye’s books. But she has completely outdone herself on this one. It’s a hard read. By that I mean, I had to step away several times to collect myself.
It’s a story of heartbreaking abuse and abominable treatment of innocent children. It’s also a beautiful story of first love and survival. It’s amazing what love can do. You will definitely remember this book forever.
Sorry, I’m not great at writing reviews but hopefully this will intrigue you to read Becoming James Black
*Disclaimer: Becoming James Black contains delicate and emotional topics that are unsuitable for some readers. Mistreatment of children and child sex trafficking are involved and may be a trigger for certain readers. Discretion is advised.
Becoming James Black: Book 2 James Black (Standalone)
Well, as I’m certain y’all saw from my reactivating a certain page and previous blog post… I’m BACK!
I’m so happy to see that I’ve been missed. I sincerely mean that! I’ve missed all of my people, too.
The question of the hour seems to be “What have you been up to?” So, let’s get into that.
I’ve been up to a lot. A whole lot.
First off, I’ve been enjoying (and at the same time, needing a damn break from) my mister and our two homeschooled hellions. We’re together… All. The. Damn. Time. My hubby is a Chemical Engineer and has worked in the oil and gas industry for 25+ years… well, he did. Since it was essentially murdered, he doesn’t anymore. He now works from home. So, we’re constantly together. Blessing and a curse. But, it’s cool.
We cook and clean and work out and all that other jazz.
Because I started taking care of me, I’ve lost over 40lbs and I feel AMAZING! I love my own skin again and it’s fantastic.
I’ve also been remodeling my house. Just doing anything and everything I’ve wanted to do for the past 8 years. I’m making my dream house MY dream house. It’s a lot of work; but it’s awesome. We’re far from finished though. Still tons to do.
I’ve also gotten back into reading. I used to read a book a day and I’m almost back to that now. Though, I’m super selective with who and what I read. I recently finished The Bridgerton Series, The Fallen Series, The Channie Series, and a bunch of standalones, including some of my own books. Which, I’ve never read once they were actually published. (Several reviews are posted here on stuff I’ve been reading. Just scroll.)
I also have my business Purely Southern Style by Skye. I love creating and designing for my store. And, business has been pretty damn good. If you like hats, tea towels, and stuff like that, check me out.
Like most people, Netflix occupies a shit-ton of my time. I’ve gotten lost in Bridgerton, Fate: The Winx Saga, Cobra Kai, and far too many other things. I swear Netflix should pay me since I watch so much. Does anyone have the hook-up to make that happen?! 😉
I’m also re-editing, reformatting, and expanding some of my books. Since rereading them, I see a lot I want to fix/embellish/reformat in them. All will probably be redone at some point…
My main new thing is… I’m WRITING again. Well, me as Sloane Nicole is writing again. I’m currently writing another L’Amour Bayou novel called Fate Awakened. The blurb and cover will be revealed soon.
I’m absolutely obsessed with the cover. I look at it repeatedly and elation and excitement just fills me. It’s thrilling to have passion again.
I still have covers and ideas for about 100 Skye Turner books. I’m just not certain I’ll get to them. But, nothing is out of the question. I simply don’t know and I’m not stressing about it.
I do what I want when I want… as I always have. I can’t tell you what’s next for me because I won’t know until it happens. I like winging my life. It works for me.
I think that pretty much catches y’all up on what’s been “up” with me.
I’m just living my life, my way, the way I always have, and preparing for whatever comes next.
I’m working on a few more things, but… they’re still a secret. When, and if, they come to fruition, I’ll blab to the world. I’ll scream it loudly.
I’m still the same sassy, snarky, opinionated, Louisiana lady who takes no shit and refuses to compromise myself no matter who likes it… or doesn’t. My wicked sense of humor is still around. And, I still help anyone I can and try my damnest not to judge, though, that is super freaking HARD these days.
I’ve removed people from my life over the past few months and I’m perfectly content with it!
For those who missed me, I’m back! And, for those who like to wag tongues about me, have fun. I don’t plan to deny you the ability to run your mouth!
Hello beautiful people! Good (what day is it)… Good Tuesday! It’s Tuesday according to my hellions.
Some exciting (well, I think it’s exciting) stuff is happening with me.
First off, I escaped the Louisiana Icepocolypse 2021/Eternal Plandemic last week and my family and I headed down to Orlando for eight days. We had a Disney trip planned and it was absolutely flipping fantastic! High 70’s/ Low 80’s every day and beautiful warm sun… Heaven.
Anyways, we did Animal Kingdom, Hollywood Studios, and Magic Kingdom and it was fabulous. We refuse to live in fear. But hey, that’s us.
Now, back to the happenings. If you aren’t following me as Sloane Nicole on Facebook (I freaking despise Facebook), you missed the announcement…
I’m WRITING again! Well, Sloane Nicole, which is my Adult PNR (Paranormal/Fantasy) Romance pen name is writing again!
Another L’Amour Bayou book is coming.
Since my car accident in January of 2019, where I was slammed into at over 50mph while at a complete stop by a distracted driver, resulting in a massive concussion that left me with a continuous, unrelenting migraine every single day and nerve damage causing half of my left hand to be absolutely useless, I’ve thought my career was over.
The one book I was able to get out since that day took me over ten months to complete and it was a much shorter novel for me. It was excruciating to write and I was so depressed from it all… I lost my passion.
To go from writing one full length novel every three to four months, plus numerous short stories, to one short novel in ten months while struggling with a crippling migraine and relearning to type without using two fingers… well, it’s a lot.
As someone who already had mental health issues, anxiety, crippling panic attacks, and depression, being put in this condition by someone’s carelessness devastated me. I guess in some ways it broke me.
So, I exited the “book world.” I still promoted the sixty-five books I’d put out as Skye Turner and Sloane Nicole, but I had zero drive or passion to produce more.
Then came the shit show that was 2020, the Plandemic, and the farce of an election. After seeing the way people I’d once befriended, respected, and supported were acting… it reinforced my decision to leave that world.
After all, I am absolutely nothing like 90% of the authors in the romance genre. I’m a staunch Conservative and not at all ashamed of that fact. I don’t degrade, insult, and attack people who believe differently than I do. And, the ugly is abundant with most authors I once considered peers/friends.
In fact… hell, I’m basically a unicorn.
Back on track… the past few months, I’ve done something I’d never done before. I reread MY BOOKS as a reader. I started with Bayou Stix; and then, it was on to Unwanted Desire. I just finished James Black and I’m now on Becoming James Black. I’ve remembered how GOOD I was and it’s reawakened the creative/author part of myself.
Suddenly, I wanted to write, to create, to explore the ideas in my head again. It felt like a door that had been locked, hidden, and covered with cobwebs and dust was not only unlocked, but flung wide open.
I went straight to my laptop and the words just came. Sure, they come more slowly now because my hands don’t type as fast and my brain needs frequent breaks, but, they’re COMING.
I get frustrated and overwhelmed almost daily because I’m slower than I previously was and often when I want to keep going, my brain screams, “ENOUGH” and I have to stop to give it a break.
But… I’m WRITING!
I have almost five chapters of the L’Amour Bayou book done. I have an absolutely stunning cover, that is exactly what I wanted, from the brilliant Tracie Douglas of Dark Water Covers.
I cannot wait to share the cover and blurb with y’all! And then, the book!
In fact, I just decided, right this second, to share the title with you. It’s…
Sloane Nicole (me) writes Bewitching Bayou Romance filled with fantasy, magic, and my usual heat.
I absolutely cannot wait to bring you this book, as well as whatever else I decide to work on. Though, Sloane Nicole works appear to be what my brain is pushing right now.
Make certain you’re following both this blog AND Sloane Nicole’s Facebook page to stay up to date with anything and everything.
Skye Turner’s Facebook page is also republished for the time being. Though, I haven’t decided what to do with it yet.
As always, thank you for being here, reading my stuff, conversing and interacting with me, and being awesome! I’ve missed y’all! But, for now… I’m BACK! 💋
I “was” a new reader of Evangeline Anderson. I was recently introduced to her through the first book in the Alien Mate Series, Abducted.
I very much enjoyed Abducted and was eager to dive into the next book… this book, Protected.
Rating: 1 Star
Talent Is Irrelevant When Prejudice and Hate Is So Relevant
Unfortunately, the author can’t leave politics out of her writing.
After reading Abducted, I bought ALL of the author’s books.
This book and the author’s blatant disrespect, bullying, and downright hate for President Trump spewed throughout the pages of Protected has disgusted me and I will be returning all of the books besides this one and Abducted… since I read those two.
It’s a real shame that she, like the majority of other authors in this genre, are so prejudiced.
Her talent is absolutely irrelevant when her prejudice and politics are all that jumps out.
As a fellow author, and a Conservative, this behavior disgusts me.
A real shame!
Her sex scenes in both books also seem to follow a “script” of sorts and seem redundant.
I never write one star reviews. Ever. But, this was one review I couldn’t not write!
I won’t be finishing the series or reading any future books by this author.
Many people, myself included, read to escape reality. So, for someone to literally use their politics in such a way in a book, knowing people have different politics, appalls me.
